Nonclave 2008: Player Generated Content
Welcome
Welcome to the player-generated website for Nonclave 2008. This page is a working draft for Player-event planners, and nothing on it should be trusted until this sentence has been removed. Nonclave is a great big OWBN dork-fest that happens every year. Come out to the woods, get into character, have fun, and wait to see what (or who) explodes. Whee!
The Official, ST-Sanctioned Site is at: NonClave07(08 is still pending)
Dates
Friday, August 29th - Monday, September 1
Check-in: Begins ~5:00 pm on Friday and continues until roughly 9:00 pm. Players should bring a stamped copy of their character sheet or have their sheet sent ahead by their STs to nvasts@nightfalls.com. If you're a garou player, you need to email fenir_viking@yahoo.com.
Check-out: 12 pm on Monday, Sept. 1.
Location
Nonclave takes place at Prince William Forest Park, in Triangle, Virginia. Specifically, the event takes place in Cabin Camp #4, a.k.a. Camp Pleasant. It consists of a bunch of cabins, a large banquet hall, a shower wing, and a church-like meeting space.

Game Fee
Game fee is $30 for the entire weekend (even if you only stay one night) so long as you submit your character sheet by August 25th. After that, it's $35 and your first born. Nonclave and Nonklaive merchandise is available for purchase.
Where do you send those sheets, again? nvasts@nightfalls.com (Kindred). fenir_viking@yahoo.com (Garou).
What to Bring
- Alcohol is prohibited, per park regulations. Violation of this rule may cause the event to lose the ability to use the site in the future. That would be very bad. Don't do it.
- Sleeping: Each cabin comes with three rooms and ~10 beds. The beds aren't fancy; they consist of a bed frame with built in springs and a thin, plastic-covered mattress. You should bring a sleeping bag (or blankets) and pillow. An air mattress might be an appreciated luxury.
- Electical Appliances: Cabins do have electricity, but the outlets are very limited (one per room). Overhead lights are dim, but sufficient for not tripping over beds.
- Bug Spray: Cabins have screened windows, but bugs still get in. Bring bug spray for yourself, and consider bringing bug bomb if you want to kill any insects that may have made themselves a home in your cabin.
- Shower Supplies: There are showers on the premises and hot water, but not enough to support everyone showering at once. Be prepared to shower during off-times and bring some flip-flops. Communal showers get gross.
- Food: The main hall has a large commercial kitchen with sinks, grills, and a walk-in refrigerator. Bring your own food and be prepared to label it well. Food does get stolen, especially if it appears to be unclaimed. You should also bring your own pots, pans, silverware, and dishes. If cooking is not your thing, you may also drive into town where there are several chain restaurants and a large Target store.
- Flashlight: Bring a flashlight. There are a lot of trails throughout the site and there is almost no lighting.
- Rain Jacket: Take note of the weather forecast before you leave.
- Hiking Shoes/Bike/Fishing Pole: Optional, but there are a lot of trails to walk or bike and even fishing during the day, if that's your cup of tea.
- Firewood: Optional. There's a fire ring out in the woods (normally claimed by the gangrel players).
FAQs
Will my cell phone work?
Verizon and T-mobile do, to my knowledge, but
reception is generally spotty.
Cabin camping scares me. Do I have to sleep there?
Cabin camping doesn't
really even count as camping, if you ask me. Give me a tent. Hell, give me a tarp, some
string, and a tree or two. But for those genuine city-slickers who have something against
sharing a pillow with a wolf spider the size of a rat, there are hotels that
folks can stay in. See below for nearby hotels. If you live locally, you can also just
commute each day/night.
It sounds like all the cool stuff happens during the night. What am I supposed
to do all day?
Well, the Garou people are playing during day light hours, so you can
join them. You'll want to sleep in after a late night of partying (unless the Garou players
decide to earn the hate of the universe by howling at 8 am). There's general geek-talk that
inevitably happens, hiking in the woods, setting up sets for the evening, cooking, movie
watching (or even movie-making), or whatever adventure you care to bring.
I'm getting into the area on Thursday and I think free National
Monuments and awesome free museums suck. WTF should I do with my time instead?
First,
national monuments are totally
awesome so you're just silly. But the DC game always has a formal court on Thursday
night, so you should totally drop in on that and get yer geek on early. Let the harpy know
you're coming ICly, though (Eva Luna).
Wait, what did you say about Garou?
Yeah, so it's a multi-genre
event. There are werewolves, sabbat, and cammies (maybe even fairies) all running around
on the island. But as a rule, we don't run into each other. Best not to think about it.
Can I propose an event or activity, to take place IC or OOC?
Oh God,
please YES! Email oc-nonclave-2008@googlegroups.com.
Have I ever told you that I love you? NB: This is a player-run activity group (i.e. don't send
us stuff that's for STs only).
What do I do if someone is ruining the event for me, OOCly
(harassing me, stealing my food, messing with my stuff, or just making me feel
really weirded out)?
Go talk to one of the STs. They'll sort things out. Sometimes
they can even be discrete if it's important.
Can I reserve my cabin space now?
Nope. Sorry. First come, first
serve. You can, however, find a good friend to put their stuff on a bed for you until you can
get there, but don't abuse it.
Should I plan on actually doing cool costuming for this thing?
Yes
please.
Do I get XP for this?
Yep. At least 2xp/night, plus travel and RP or
whatever else you might have coming to you.
It seems like everything takes place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. What's going
on Monday?
Nothing much, IC. Most folks are cleaning up and heading home. That
cleaning up thing is important though. We really need to have people clean up after
themselves and even others, if that's what it takes to mean the site is as clean as we
found it (and thus we're not likely to be banned from it next year).
Is parking going to be a problem?
Depends when you arrive, honestly.
Parking can get a bit tight, so carpooling might be smart. Otherwise you should be cool
with the idea of walking a bit.
I got the coolest spikey heel shoes when I was in Italy for a mere $500! When
should I show them off?
If you're going to wear unstable shoes, save them for
inside events. Go outside and you'll risk breaking your ankle on a shadow-obscured tree
root. Sensible foot wear is recommended for wandering about.
OMG, I want to come, but I have no car! What can I do?!
Google is teh
awesome and has allowed us to create a ride-sharing board. Check it out below!
This page is snarky and rude, even if it is full of useful information. I demand
to know who's responsible for it, so that I may be snarky back at them and make them know the
true meaning of pain. Who are you?!
So far you have Alison and Madelyn to blame for
this page. Additional culprits are yet to be listed. *smooches!* There's also an entire
planning committee of players thinking up IC events (see above). There are lots of them, and
Alison is too lazy to look up all their names.
Hotels
Hate the woods? Despise the thought of sharing a cabin with a half-dozen people? Wanna have some quality time with your honey? Oh sweet Jeebus. Get a room! All hotels are within 2 miles of the park.

Note to testers - please try filling out this form - I think it can work, but I haven't been able to really test it out yet. Fake info is fine, I'll clear it out later and re-set it.
IC Background
For many years, the domains of Northern Virginia and Washington, DC have collaborated to put on a grand event at the close of summer. The event takes place on Roosevelt Island, just inside the DC boundaries, and welcomes Camarilla and Independent Kindred from Far and Wide. The hosts for this year are Prince DuBois of Washington, DC, and Prince Smith from Northern Virginia. The Keeper for this grand event is Mr. Vincent King and Garett Dannington will serve as Sheriff.
Friday night is often a less-formal affair, with the calling of court, recognition of visitors, and general announcements. Friday this year will also occasion a midnight tea, open to all those ladies and gentlemen who find pleasure in polite conversation and who wish to indulge the mysterious culinary appetite which occasions any visit to the District. Saturday night sees host to a grand Bacchanal, which warrants the finest apparel and, traditionally, gifts for the hosts. Sunday night is often an occasion for clan meetings and less formal revelry.
This year, the theme for the Bachannal is "Film Noir." Guests are encouraged to dress in a manner reminiscent of this time period in American history and can look forward to a contest for the best impersonation of a famous figure of the period. Dancing and social games are also to be expected.
What is Film Noir, anyway?
Wait for it, wait for it. . .
No, seriously. I mean Wait For It.
Gosh, some people have no patience.
